South Australia Famous Wine Region

MCLAREN VALE

About the Region

McLaren Vale is one of Australia's top 10 best-known and one of the oldest wine regions. It located in the south of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia It forms the Fleurieu Peninsula with Currency Creek, Langhorne Creek, Kangaroo Island and Southern Fleurieu as a famous wine region. McLaren Vale is near by sea, which has greater temperature difference between day and night and longer grape growing times. Shiraz is the most typical wine variety in the McLaren Vale, and it is tasted with a softer and sweet aroma.

In the 19th century, the grape phylloxera spread from the United States to Europe and destroyed almost all grape and wine industries in the major traditional wine-producing countries in around 25 years.

New-world countries such as Australia, however, escaped from this catastrophe because of their own climatic and geographical advantages.  The climate allows the old vines to survive for a long time. It is being confirmed that certain old vines live for hundred years since 1843.  You can still see the old vines from Barossa Valley to McLaren Vale, and it ultimately improves the quality and flavor of the wine
